The Falls Are Full Again

The snow melt brought a lot of water down the Big Sioux River that wraps around Sioux Falls. So we headed out one night to go check out the Falls.

They were roaring and foamy, as expected. But they’ve had more water come through in the past.

Again, getting them both to look at the camera together is quite the task. It wasn’t happening tonight.

Mommy’s New Job

It’s been seven years since I started producing the 6pm News at KELO. But I decided it’s time to change jobs… within the newsroom, that is.

The morning web producer moved on to a station in Omaha in December, which sparked my interest in moving to the web world. After a few short talks with my managers and husband, I decided it would be a good move for our family, although a major life-changing one. The station posted my job, did a couple rounds of interviews and after training my replacement in the end of February and beginning of March, I officially moved to the web department as a web producer.

That means I am now one of three people in the news department who solely manage the content on KELOLAND.com. I am learning a lot – and it feels good to learn again! And when ever I have serious computer questions that are over our heads, I have my husband to turn to. Just think, with some time, we may finally be speaking the same language! hehe

I’m also looking forward to collecting web-exclusive material, whether that’s video, photos, data or even live streaming video. Just a couple days into the job, I was live streaming the Governor’s Flood Informational Briefings to our website from Brookings and the Sioux Falls flooding updates from the Law Enforcement Center. Now the challenge is to keep enterprising content and coming up with new ideas!

Another aspect I’m really looking forward to is my new schedule. It may not sound attractive to some, but I hope it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for to give me more time with the family. I go in at 5:00 a.m. and get off at 2:00 p.m. and take a break from 7:30-8:30 am to grab the kids from home and take them to day care. That gives me time in the afternoons to run errands, grocery shop, take a nap if I need, go to meetings for other organizations I work with and make dinner so we can eat before 7:30 p.m.! My previous schedule was 9:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m…. or whenever I wrapped up work to leave after the 6 o’clock news.

Now the trick is getting the kids to bed at a decent time (8:00 p.m. so that I can go to bed shortly after).

I’ll let you know how it goes!

New Discoveries

IMG_5927IMG_5934

Noah is loving to read books.  He’s really good about pulling every book off the shelves and sitting down by himself to read through them.  He’s not so good, yet, at sitting down and listening to you read through a whole one!

Alexis found my ‘bag of bags’ and for several weeks filled each of them with her toys and carried them around the house by the arm-load. First a shoe obsession, now purses.  It’s just the natural progression, right?

And I don’t know what I was thinking to give the kids toast with sunbutter and jelly for breakfast (they can’t have peanut butter so sunbutter is made with sunflower seeds and is very similar!). I should have known Noah would cover his face, hands, table, chair, and pajamas in sticky blackberry jelly!  At least he had fun with it and it turned into some cute pictures.  Can you say, ‘bath time’!
